Funding

To finance the cost of reducing your energy consumption we can apply on your behalf to the Carbon Trust for 0% interest free loans to have energy reduction works carried out or supply products to reduce energy consumption, the work carried out at your premises must so significantly reduce the amount of energy consumed to repay the carbon trust loan.

Explanation of how Energy reduction has been achived for a medium sized Hotel

1.1      Lighting Systems

In order to reduce the energy consumption of the Hotel, All existing halogen and incandescent lighting elements were replaced for compact fluorescent and LED alternatives. Where applicable these replacements were dimmable in order to achieve the desired ambience.

Furthermore care was taken to select the appropriate colour temperature of lighting element specific to individual areas.

In areas of occasional occupancy specific lighting circuits were automated to operate only when presence was detected. This further reduced electricity consumption beyond our original calculations.

We derived our calculations by ascertaining that the hotels electrical usage was mainly attributed to lighting and accounts for a vast amount of the venues consumption. Considering that the average lighting energy consumption reduction is 84.5%. Our calculations were based on the minimum consumption reduction.

Additionally in each room containing electric towel rails, these appliances are to be fitted with time lag switches to restrict operation to a maximum of one hour.

1.2      Heating Systems

The existing Heating system consisted of four Hamworthy boilers dating from the late 70’s, there were thermostatic controls operating anywhere in the building and the heating system was only controlled via a return flow thermostat. There was no automatic zone control other than four valves that could be operated manually; this procedure will have inevitably resulted in areas left heated when not in use.

We replaced the existing Hamworthy boilers that had an efficiency of 65% with high efficency condensing replacement units that have an efficiency of 99%. This will instantly reflect a 34% reduction in Gas consumption. We then installed control valves to the four zone of the building to enable isolation when not in use; a further saving was be achieved.

We also propose to installed an intelligent control system with optimum start and close temperature control; this system will manage set points accurately within 0.3 of a degree (heating controls section).this will further reduce Gas consumption by a minimum of 25%.

The cost of this work was £65′000 and the achived savings are over £24′000 per annum.
